The first Centre of Expertise DRIVER+ (CoE) wil come into being in Poland. CoE is an organisation operating in the domain of Crisis Management and Disaster Risk Reduction that acts as the primary contact point for practitioner organisations at the national or regional level, supporting their capability development and innovation management.

Between 19th – 20th of November was the second Sat4Envi conference on Satellite data in monitoring the natural environment of Poland. The event was dedicated to representatives of the scientific community and the public administration.

On 6th November Crisis Information Centre SRC PAS participated in the vovoidship exercise of crisis management. The purpose of the exercise was checking the cooperation and coordination of services and inspections during a crisis situation related to a transport disaster from the Silesian Voivodeship.

On 28 September 2019, Crisis Information Centre Team from Space Research Centre of Polish Academy of Sciences took part in crisis management exercise dedicated to cooperation and coordination rescue services during crisis situation. Scenario of exercise was focused on fictitious flood on Masovia.

Between 24th and 25th of September Crisis Information Centre team from the Space Research Centre PAS participated in the exercise “LESKO 2019” which took place in Lesko District. The event was organised by the District Headquarter of the State Fire Service from Lesko and the Voivodeship Headquarter of the State Fire Service from Rzeszów.

DRIVER+ Project is co-organizing European exercises IRONORE 2019 in Austria
The central area of Austria has been struck by a fictitious heavy earthquake and subsequent heavy rains. The local region of Eisenerz (in Styria, Austria) is one of the most affected with missing persons, casualties, collapsed buildings, blocked roads, and endangered industries working with hazardous substances. It is the part of IRONORE 2019 scenario.

Workshop with the Jura Group of the Mountain Volunteer Search and Rescue
On 31st August - 1st Seprember 2019 Crisis Information Centre team from the Space Research Centre of the Polish Academy of Sciences participated in workshops on searching for missing persons organized by the Jura Group of the Mountain Volunteer Search and Rescue. The aim of the event was to improve the organisation and usege of satellite techniques in exploration activities. During the event, the CIK team provided support for the participants of exercises using solutions available at the Mobile Centre for Satellite Data Analysis and Development (MCS).

On 27th and 28th August two sewage collectors responsible for dreinage system for left bank Warsaw broke down. Therefore, the discharge of waste water had to be put through emergency collector with outlet directly to Vistula river.

On 8-9 August 2019 Crisis Information Centre team conducted training on Geographical Information Systems and remote sensing for rescuers from the Jura Group of the Mountain Volunteer Search and Rescue. Two-day session took place in the Central Rescue Station of Jura Group in Podlesice, Silesian Voivodship.

Water extent maps in south-eastern Poland
Intensive rainfall in the period of 20-22 May 2018 contributed to water level rising and local flooding in the southern Poland. Today, the Government Centre for Security has issued 2nd and 3rd degree flood warning in Śląsk, Małopolska and Podkarpackie regions. CIK CBK PAN prepared extent maps for the most injured areas using current Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2 satellite images from Copernicus.

The ageement between the Subcarpatian voivodship and the SRC PAS
On 20th of March, during the meeting of the Voivod Crisis Management Team organized as part of the national exercise of emergency services and crisis management services "PODKARPACIE 2019", was signed a cooperation agreerment between the Subcarpatian voivodship and the Space Research Center of PAS. The agreement was signed by the Governor of the Subcarpatian voivodship PhD Ewa Leniart and The Deputy Director for Scientific Affairs in SRC PAS Prof. Jolanta Nastula.
